The family of a 4-year-old boy fatally injured in an April 2025 car crash has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver's estate and a transport company.
On April 10, Yexsel Reyes Granados was a passenger in a van carrying children from P.G. Chambers School during a four-vehicle collision on Route 10 in Randolph, New Jersey. The crash resulted in the deaths of three adults and injuries to two children.
The deceased were identified as Bertha Castaneda, 67, of Dover; Diane Goetz, 71, of Randolph; and Maria Z. Figueroa, 58, of Wharton. Yexsel suffered severe injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, and died the following day.
In addition to Yexsel's family, a second plaintiff, Kristen Elder, claims her child suffered lasting injuries from the incident. The lawsuit details multiple injuries, including a fractured clavicle and chronic pain.
The complaint alleges negligence on the part of Goetz, who reportedly drove 96 mph and may have experienced a medical emergency before the collision. The lawsuit names Edward Retlewski, administrator of Goetz's estate, and Alyft Transport as defendants.
Authorities indicated that Goetz failed to adhere to traffic signals and properly control her vehicle. The complaint also accuses Alyft Transport of negligence for allegedly not securing Yexsel in his car seat.
The family seeks compensation for medical, funeral, and estate-related expenses. No comments were provided by legal representatives for the defendants.
