Ellenboro Township, Wis. (WKOW) — A crash on County Highway A Sunday morning killed a 26-year-old woman and left a 17-year-old driver critically injured.

Katy Schafer, of Montfort, was at the scene, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Office. Christopher Brandemuehl, from rural Lancaster, was by AirCare3 to UW Hospital in Madison with critical injuries.

Deputies responded to the incident around 2:37 a.m. Brandemuehl was driving a 2007 F350 eastbound when the vehicle struck the edge of the roadway to the south. The truck crossed the center line, entered the ditch on the north side of the highway, struck an embankment, and rolled multiple times before coming to rest on the driver's side.

Both occupants were from the vehicle. Authorities noted that speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.

County Highway A was closed in both directions for approximately seven hours during the investigation and cleanup.
