Semi-truck crashes into vehicle near Algona, killing driver

One person died and two more were injured in a crash just west of Algona in Kossuth County.According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, a semi-truck was heading southbound on 90th Avenue in Kossuth County at 10:30 a.m. Monday. The driver failed to stop at the intersection of 90th Avenue and 210th Street, according to the crash report, and slammed into an eastbound Chevrolet Equinox.The driver of the Equinox, identified as Carolee Wise, 47, of Emmetsburg, died at the scene.The semi-truck driver and a passenger in the Equinox were both injured.According to the latest data from the Iowa Department of Transportation, 82 people have died so far this year on Iowa roads. That number is 14 more than at the same point in 2025. Over the last five years, an average of 337 people have been killed in statewide crashes annually.
