CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Multiple tractor-trailers collided early Wednesday on I-81 northbound, creating a hazardous scene, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).
The crash occurred around 3:25 a.m. near mile marker 28, resulting in extensive debris and hazardous materials across the roadway. Three tractor-trailers were involved, with one transporting raw chicken, which spilled onto the highway. Another vehicle was reported to be carrying mail.
Franklin County emergency crews were called to assist with lane closures. A lane restriction is in effect between mile markers 24 and 29, according to 511PA.
Authorities confirmed that I-81 northbound would remain closed for several hours. One individual was transported to the hospital for medical evaluation.
As of 9:30 a.m., PennDOT announced that the roadway has reopened. Cleanup efforts included the removal of the spilled chicken, which is expected to be disposed of at a landfill.
