CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Multiple tractor-trailers crashed early Wednesday on I-81 northbound, creating a significant hazard, according to the Department of Transportation.
The collision occurred around 3:25 a.m. near mile marker 28, resulting in debris and hazardous materials scattered across the roadway. Three tractor-trailers were involved, with one carrying raw chicken that spilled onto the road surface. The second vehicle was transporting mail, while the cargo of the third truck remains unknown.
Franklin County emergency services closed the interstate to manage the situation, with lane restrictions in place between mile markers 24 and 29. PennDOT confirmed the northbound lanes would remain closed for several hours. One individual was transported to the hospital with injuries.
As of 9:30 a.m., the roadway has reopened, and the remaining spilled chicken was reportedly disposed of in a landfill.
