NEW ORLEANS —
The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a crash that injured an officer on Thursday evening at Woodland Drive and MacArthur Boulevard.
At approximately 6:30 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to the scene. A Lexus SUV was involved in the incident.
Witnesses reported that before help arrived, a former pediatric nurse, Naomi Davis, intervened after hearing a loud crash. “I ran out there,” Davis said, noting that the intersection is known for frequent accidents.
Upon reaching the officer, Davis observed he was unresponsive and appeared to be attempting to use his radio for assistance. “He was in there and he was unconscious,” she stated.
Davis provided aid, ensuring airflow and communicating his condition via the officer's radio. “I took his radio and said an unconscious officer is at the corner of Woodland and MacArthur and needs help,” she recounted.
Authorities have not confirmed the cause of the crash. The injured officer was transported to the hospital and is expected to recover.
Davis expressed her commitment to helping others. “I would've done it for anyone, glad I was there to help out,” she remarked.
