KLAMATH COUNTY, Ore. — A teenager died, and another was injured in a car crash on Saturday, May 17.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP), a Dodge Durango struck a disabled Honda CR-V on Highway 140 near milepost 1. The Honda was obstructing the eastbound lane when the collision occurred.
Eighteen-year-old Kaylee Rae Volpe of Klamath Falls and a 17-year-old male were inside the Honda. The younger occupant was thrown over the bridge barrier into the Klamath River upon impact.
First responders transported Volpe to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the Durango, 40-year-old Forrest Clinton George Fairchild, was reportedly uninjured.
Emergency response included OSP, the Klamath County Sheriff's Office, Klamath County Fire District #1, Klamath County Fire District #4, Klamath County Dive Rescue, and ODOT.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
