JUPITER ISLAND, Fla. (CBS12) — A Martin County judge granted Tiger Woods a travel motion on Wednesday, allowing him to leave the country amid DUI charges.

County Judge Darren Steele approved the motion during a 2 p.m. hearing, permitting Woods to enter inpatient treatment at an overseas facility. The State of Florida did not oppose the request, according to court records.

Woods was arrested on March 27 for misdemeanor DUI and refusal to submit to urine testing following a two-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck and a Land Rover. Pills were reportedly found in his pocket, and Woods later posted a $1,150 bond. His defense team sought the court’s approval to ensure transparency regarding his treatment.

Defense attorney Douglas Duncan cited medical recommendations stating that the foreign facility is essential due to Woods’ “complex clinical presentation.” The motion suggests that ongoing public scrutiny in the U.S. could hinder his treatment progress.

Court minutes indicate the state deferred to the court’s discretion, leading to Steele’s approval of the motion. The order was signed and entered into the record on Wednesday afternoon. Woods, a Martin County resident, has waived his presence at preliminary court proceedings and will return for future hearings as mandated.

This development follows Woods’ announcement that he is stepping away from golf. No further court dates were announced following the ruling.
