WATFORD CITY, N.D. – A collision at the intersection of Highway 85 and 23rd St. NW occurred on September 28, 2025, at 8:30 a.m., resulting in two fatalities.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a 2013 Ford Fusion was traveling southbound on Highway 85 while a 2006 Peterbilt truck was approaching from the east on 23rd St. NW. The Peterbilt, driven by a 41-year-old male from Bybee, TN, disregarded a stop sign, striking the passenger side of the Ford Fusion.

Both vehicles ended up in the southeast ditch of the intersection. Road and were reported as good at the time of the crash.

All three occupants in the Ford Fusion, a 24-year-old male driver and two female passengers, ages 25 and 5, were wearing seatbelts. The adult passenger and the child were at the scene. The driver sustained serious injuries and was to a medical facility in Bismarck.

Emergency responders included the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the McKenzie County Sheriff's Office, McKenzie Rural Fire, Watford City Police Department, and McKenzie County Ambulance.
