Independence Man Killed in Secondary Crash in Tickfaw

TICKFAW, LA — An Independence man died in a secondary crash on Interstate 55 northbound late Saturday night.

According to Louisiana State Police, at approximately 11 p.m. on March 28, officers responded to a crash near LA Highway 442 in Tangipahoa Parish. Authorities reported two separate incidents occurred in the same area.

Austin Gentry, 26, was involved in an initial accident on the southbound side of the interstate. After exiting his vehicle, Gentry attempted to cross the northbound lanes just as another vehicle was traveling northbound. The vehicle struck Gentry, who was wearing dark clothing in an unlit section of the roadway.

Gentry sustained fatal injuries and was at the scene. Authorities indicated that impairment is not suspected for the driver involved in the secondary crash. No additional details have been released at this time.
