SAN DIEGO, CA – A plane crash in the Murphy Canyon neighborhood early Thursday morning has reportedly resulted in six fatalities, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 3:45 a.m. on May 22, approximately two miles from Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport, during dense fog. According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the Cessna 550 aircraft clipped a power line before crashing.
NTSB officials confirmed that the airport's weather system and runway lights were out of service at the time, including critical approach indicators.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) believes all six individuals onboard did not survive. Among the deceased were three employees of Sound Talent Group, including co-founder Dave Shapiro. A statement from the agency expressed devastation over the loss.
The victims have been identified as Shapiro, 36-year-old Daniel Williams, former drummer for The Devil Wears Prada, 25-year-old Emma Huke, and 36-year-old Celina Marie Rose Kenyon. Two others are still awaiting identification.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with explosions and significant damage reported. Approximately 100 residents remain displaced due to ongoing investigations and damage from the crash.
