SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. — Three Spotsylvania High School seniors were killed in a crash late Friday night, according to the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office.
The victims, ages 18, 17, and 17, were in a 2002 Mercedes coupe that ran off Lewiston Road and struck a tree. The incident occurred around 11:46 p.m.
The names of the deceased have not been released. An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
“The Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office extends its deepest condolences to the families, friends, and the entire school community affected by this tragic loss,” said the Sheriff's Office. “The loss of three young lives with such promising futures is a profound tragedy for all of Spotsylvania County.”
Residents have reported that Lewiston Road has long been in poor condition, raising concerns about safety. Sarah Hunnell noted that the road is frequently damaged by heavy traffic and has numerous potholes, making it dangerous for drivers.
“Heavy, higher speed traffic keeps knocking out loose pavement and making huge potholes,” Hunnell said, emphasizing the need for urgent repairs. The stretch between Route 208 and Art Road is particularly problematic, she added.
