PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — A man has been charged after allegedly striking and seriously injuring a pedestrian on Elmwood Avenue on Monday morning.
According to authorities, a 53-year-old woman was hit by a Toyota Sienna minivan around 6 a.m. The crash occurred in rainy, low-light conditions, and the vehicle fled the scene.
Emergency responders transported the victim to a hospital with serious injuries. Edisson Trinidad Lopez, 46, later turned himself in at Providence police headquarters, admitting his involvement in the crash.
Lopez faces a charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury, along with multiple traffic violations, including operating with a suspended license and driving an unregistered, uninsured vehicle.
Authorities indicated that Lopez is scheduled for a mandatory hearing at the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal on April 28.
