CARROLL COUNTY, Tenn. (WZTV) — A school bus accident involving students and staff from the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System resulted in two fatalities on Friday, March 27.

The incident occurred shortly before 2:41 p.m. near Highway 70 and Cedar Grove during a field trip to Jackson, according to authorities. The bus, carrying 25 students and five adults, collided with a Tennessee Department of Transportation dump truck and a Chevrolet Trailblazer.

Two students died at the scene, while at least seven additional individuals sustained injuries, including two adults in the TDOT truck and one in the Chevrolet, though their conditions are not yet confirmed.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is leading the investigation, with emergency crews still on site as they assess the scene. Both the investigation and recovery operations are ongoing, and officials advise motorists to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

School officials confirmed that they have contacted the families of all individuals involved. The Clarksville-Montgomery County School District expressed condolences to those affected by the tragedy.

Governor Bill Lee issued a statement expressing prayers for the impacted families and gratitude for first responders. “Maria Lee & I ask all Tennesseans to join us in prayer for the Kenwood Middle School students & faculty… We are heartbroken over the loss of life,” he said.
