Friendship, ME – A Maine State Prison guard died in a motor vehicle crash on Route 97 on October 4 at approximately 2:41 p.m.
Authorities said the crash involved a single vehicle traveling northbound. The guard, identified as a 34-year-old male, lost control of the vehicle before it struck a tree.
Witnesses reported that speed and unfamiliarity with the area may have contributed to the accident.
Emergency responders from the Friendship Fire Department and EMS arrived on the scene, but the guard succumbed to injuries at the site of the crash.
The road was temporarily closed for the investigation, and the Maine State Police are conducting a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
No additional injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
