Bond Set for Man Charged in Fatal Jackson Hit-and-Run
JACKSON, Miss. — Shannon Thomas, 57, appeared in court on March 9, 2026, following charges related to a hit-and-run crash that killed a cyclist.
Authorities said Thomas faces charges of murder and leaving the scene, with the judge setting a bond of $500,000 for the murder charge and $10,000 for the latter.
The incident occurred on March 4 when two cyclists were struck by a vehicle. Kaitlyn Mangum-Gast, 21, of Brandon, was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 36-year-old male cyclist was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Police confirmed that the vehicle involved has been recovered. This incident marks Jackson's 13th homicide of the year, according to the Jackson Police Department.
