Chelsea Dump Truck Accident Knocks Down Utility Poles, Causes Outages

CHELSEA, MA — A dump truck crashed into utility poles in Chelsea early Monday morning, causing significant damage and power outages.

Police responded to the incident at Pearl and Essex streets around 3:30 a.m., discovering the truck with several utility poles down and wires resting on the vehicle. The driver reported he had turned onto Essex from Pearl when the poles fell, citing low-hanging wires as a possible cause.

No injuries were reported; however, damage included two parked cars, approximately 100 feet of fire alarm cable, and two terminal boxes.

The crash led to road closures and detoured MBTA routes, impacting local access, including businesses and an Early Learning Center. Chelsea Public Schools administrators and MBTA supervisors intervened to manage the situation.

The incident is under investigation, according to Chelsea Police.
