Luling Woman Struck and Killed While Walking, Driver Arrested
LULING, LA — A 79-year-old woman was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking in her neighborhood on Tuesday, according to authorities.
Abigail Sampey was walking near her home on West Heather Drive around 3 p.m. when she was hit by a Jeep, driven by 64-year-old Sandra Kinler of Luling. The St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office reported that Kinler has been arrested and charged with negligent homicide, reckless operation of a vehicle, and driving without exercising due care.
Witnesses stated that video footage revealed the Jeep did not take any action to avoid the collision. Despite being conscious immediately following the incident, Abigail Sampey later succumbed to her injuries.
Emergency response teams arrived at the scene, where Abigail was treated before being transported to a hospital. The Sheriff's Office confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, with potential additional charges pending toxicology results for the driver.
Family members described Abigail Sampey as a beloved matriarch and longtime employee in the St. Charles Parish School System. She is survived by two children and four grandchildren.
“This tragic loss has deeply affected our family and the community. Abigail was known for her kindness and love for everyone she met,” said her daughter, Angelle Sampey, a professional drag racer.
