PICKFORD, Mich. — A DeTour Area school bus carrying three students ended up in a ditch following a three-vehicle crash on M-129 Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred around 8:15 a.m. in front of Dollar General, just north of Pickford. Emergency responders found a school bus with two special needs students in wheelchairs, another student, the driver, and an aide on board.
According to the driver of a pickup involved in the crash, he was stopped to turn left into Dollar General when he noticed a white SUV approaching at high speed. The SUV collided with the pickup, subsequently hitting the school bus and causing it to veer into the ditch on the west side of M-129.
Pickford Fire Chief Jim Miller commended the bus driver for her calm response during the incident, stating, “She did a great job of caring for her kids and communicating with the fire department and EMS.”
All individuals involved were assessed at the scene, and no one was transported to the hospital. The roadway was cleared by 10:30 a.m., and the incident remains under investigation.
