PENSACOLA, FL — A tragic car accident in Pensacola has claimed the life of Francois Prince Emmanuel Longdaye Yambete, 19, a former Massachusetts high school football player, early Saturday morning.
Authorities reported that Longdaye and two other Navy sailors were killed around 1:30 a.m. when their vehicle struck a barrier and ignited in flames. The sailors, assigned to Naval Air Technical Training Center and Naval Aviation Schools Command, were identified as an E-1 and two E-2 ranks, according to Cmdr. David Gardner, spokesman for Naval Education and Training Command.
While the official identities of the sailors have not been released, news of Longdaye's death was confirmed by his former football coach at Bartlett High School. “A very sad day for us all here,” said Coach Dane Laboissonniere. He indicated that classmates were informed by Longdaye's family over the weekend.
Longdaye was known for his resilience, having fled the Central African Republic due to civil unrest as a child. His journey included stops in Togo and Philadelphia before settling in Webster, Massachusetts. He was featured as an NBC10 Boston “Hometown MVP” in November 2025 during his senior season when he played as a tight end and defensive tackle.
In high school, Longdaye also served as class president and expressed ambitions of becoming a Navy SEAL. Emergency services responded to the crash scene, and further investigation is underway.
