YARMOUTH, MA—A motorcyclist was airlifted to a Rhode Island hospital with serious injuries following a crash on Route 28 early Saturday morning.
The incident occurred near the Parker's River Bridge around 2:41 a.m. According to Yarmouth Police, the roadway was reduced to one lane due to ongoing construction, with a portable traffic signal managing two-way traffic.
Officers discovered the 25-year-old motorcyclist on the ground with serious injuries, while the motorcycle was located in nearby bushes. Emergency responders transported the victim to Cape Cod Gateway Airport, where he was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital.
Preliminary investigations indicate the motorcycle was traveling west on Route 28 when it failed to stop for a red traffic light, colliding with a jersey barrier in the work zone. Authorities confirmed that the motorcyclist was thrown from the vehicle upon impact.
Additionally, police reported that the motorcyclist was operating the motorcycle without a valid license. The crash remains under investigation by Yarmouth Police.
