Head-On Collision in Pike County Claims Life, Injures Three
PIKE COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA) – A head-on collision on U.S. Highway 29 resulted in one death and three injuries just before 1 p.m. on October 2, 2026.
According to Alabama State Troopers, 67-year-old Vernell Faniel of Union Springs was a passenger in a vehicle driven by 54-year-old Steven Wilson of Troy. Their vehicle collided with another car driven by 31-year-old Vanquavious Flournoy of Brundidge.
Faniel was pronounced dead at the scene. Wilson and another passenger, 41-year-old Herman Faniel, Jr. of Banks, sustained injuries and were transported to a hospital in Dothan for treatment. Flournoy was also injured and airlifted to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, and an investigation into the crash is ongoing. Both lanes of U.S. Highway 29 were temporarily closed to facilitate emergency operations and investigation efforts.
