WATERTOWN, Wis. (WKOW) — A motorcycle accident involving three bikes occurred in the Town of Watertown, resulting in several injuries, including one rider sustaining a serious head injury. The incident unfolded at 10:39 a.m. on Saturday near the intersection of County Trunk T and Loam Road.
According to Jefferson County Sheriff Travis Maze, deputies arrived on the scene to find that the motorcycles were part of a pre-planned group ride through areas of Jefferson County. Initial investigations revealed that while traveling west on County Trunk T, the lead motorcycle lost control, veering across the lane in front of following riders.
The lead motorcycle tipped over, and its rider, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered significant head trauma. He was subsequently transported to Aurora Summit Hospital for medical attention.
The accident initiated a chain reaction involving two additional motorcycles. Though the rider of the second motorcycle successfully avoided a collision with the first bike, he still tipped over. Fortunately, he was wearing a helmet and did not sustain injuries.
In a further escalation, the rider and passenger of the third motorcycle collided with the second bike while attempting to brake, causing their motorcycle to topple as well. Both individuals were not wearing helmets and sustained head and leg injuries; they were also taken to Aurora Summit Hospital for treatment.
Responding to the incident were the Watertown Fire Department and EMS, along with the Waterloo Fire Department, UW Health Med Flight, and Jefferson County Emergency Communications.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, led by the Major Accident Investigation Team of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
