ELKVIEW, W.Va. (WCHS) — A fatal crash occurred on Interstate 79 late Friday night, resulting in one death, authorities said.
The incident was reported at approximately 11:30 p.m. near mile marker 9. According to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office, a pickup truck traveling south exited the roadway into a construction zone, colliding with a parked dump truck. The driver of the pickup was ejected from the vehicle.
Following the initial impact, the pickup truck re-entered the roadway and was struck by another vehicle. The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants of the second vehicle refused medical treatment, deputies reported.
The crash is under active investigation, and no names are being released at this time. Authorities continue to examine the details surrounding the incident.
