One killed, two seriously injured in Rankin County single-vehicle crash
RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. — A single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in Rankin County resulted in one fatality and two serious injuries, according to the Rankin County Sheriff's Department.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. in the 1000 block of Seventh Day Road in the Star area. Authorities reported that a black 2022 Acura left the roadway, overturned, and caught fire with three occupants inside.
A nearby resident heard the crash and attempted a rescue. According to the Sheriff's Department, the resident entered the burning vehicle twice and successfully saved two occupants.
One occupant died at the scene. The other two were transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and remain hospitalized. All three victims are identified as Rankin County residents.
Rankin County Deputy Coroner Cliff Dunlap responded and recovered the deceased. The circumstances of the crash are under active investigation by the Rankin County Sheriff's Department.
Sheriff Bryan Bailey expressed condolences to the families affected and acknowledged the resident's courageous actions in the rescue efforts.
