Two Shawnee County sheriff's deputies injured in ATV crash while conducting search.

Two Shawnee County Sheriff's deputies were injured in an ATV accident on Sept. 9 while searching for a fugitive.

Both deputies were transported to a Topeka hospital for treatment, according to Deputy Abigail Christian, spokeswoman for Sheriff Brian Hill's office. Their names and current conditions have not been released.

The incident occurred around 7:40 a.m. when deputies from the fugitive warrants unit located the suspect at a homeless camp near SW 1st and Crane Terrace. The man fled into a wooded area, prompting deputies to deploy drones and ATVs for the search.

The ATV accident involving the two responding deputies occurred near NW Interstate 70 and MacVicar Avenue, Christian confirmed. The suspect was apprehended at approximately 11:06 a.m.

Details regarding the fugitive's identity are still pending.
