SERIOUS CRASH ON I-291 WEST IN SOUTH WINDSOR LEAVES THREE INJURED

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT—On Monday morning, a serious crash involving eight vehicles occurred on Interstate 291 West near Exit 2, resulting in multiple injuries.

According to the South Windsor Fire Department, three individuals sustained serious injuries, while three others suffered minor injuries. Three additional people declined medical attention. No fatalities were reported.

State police responded to the incident at approximately 7:45 a.m. Initially reported as involving a school , authorities later clarified that a school transport van was among the vehicles involved. Witnesses described the collision as “very violent,” with widespread wreckage. A commercial truck, a pickup truck, and several cars were part of the crash.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection reported a significant fuel spill, which has been contained to the road and shoulder. A private contractor has been dispatched for cleanup.

The Exit 2 on-ramp remains closed, with no information available regarding the duration of the closure.

Emergency responders stated that this incident is the fifth accident in the area since construction began in June. The South Windsor Fire Department Assistant Chief, Brian Peck, noted concerns about visibility in the work zone, emphasizing the need for safety measures.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation indicated that construction on the Bissell Bridge will continue through the summer season. Further inquiries regarding safety measures around the work zone have been directed to the DOT.
