Wrong-way driver collides with another car on I-290, injuring several people.

Several people are injured, some seriously, after a wrong-way driver crashed on Interstate 290 in Northborough, Massachusetts, on Wednesday evening just before 9 p.m., according to State Police.

Multiple 911 calls reported a vehicle traveling the wrong way on I-290 eastbound. Upon arrival, troopers found the wrong-way had collided with another vehicle near mile marker 29, close to Exit 28.

Viewer video showed a vehicle on its side, fully engulfed in flames, with another vehicle nearby also on fire, producing heavy smoke.

Emergency crews responded to the scene to assist the injured. All eastbound I-290 traffic is being diverted at Exit 27 to facilitate access for emergency responders.

MassDOT stated that traffic disruptions are expected to continue for several hours. At least one individual has been transported to a nearby hospital; however, the extent of injuries and the total number of injured are currently unknown.

Authorities said further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
