LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX NEWS) — A documentary commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Comair Flight 5191 crash premiered on Aug. 6.
The film, titled “49 Doves,” was directed by Lanny Brannock, who spent nearly a year compiling interviews, photos, and stories from those connected to the tragedy.
“The demand grew so significant that we moved from a small theater to a larger venue about three weeks prior to the screening,” Brannock stated, noting over 500 attendees at the premiere.
The documentary is named after 49 doves, which represent the lives lost in the crash, and are memorialized at the University of Kentucky Arboretum. Since the premiere, Brannock reported a surge of outreach from individuals wishing to share their personal connections to the event.
“I’ve received many messages from people who weren’t featured in the film, each adding their own stories related to the tragedy,” he said.
Brannock emphasized that the documentary highlights how the Lexington community united during the crisis. “The outpouring from the people of Lexington and Kentucky showed remarkable compassion and support,” he noted.
“49 Doves” aims to preserve the memory of those who perished, ensuring their stories remain a vital part of the community’s history.
