NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A 26-year-old man died in a two-vehicle crash on I-40 East near Old Hickory Boulevard early Monday, police confirmed.

The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. when Kendreck Murry Jr. reportedly struck the rear of a Peterbilt garbage truck while driving a 2011 Genesis at a high rate of speed. The collision caused the garbage truck to overturn and Murry's vehicle to ignite. He was at the scene, while no serious injuries were reported for the driver of the truck.

Authorities stated that speed is a preliminary contributing factor in the crash. Toxicology tests will be conducted to assess whether impairment was a factor.

Emergency response teams and Metro Nashville Police are investigating the incident, which resulted in temporary lane closures on the highway. Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
