Lede: Southbound Diagonal Highway reopened after an SUV struck and killed an 85-year-old cyclist near Longmont on Monday morning.
The crash occurred around 7:58 a.m. on the Diagonal Highway near North 83rd Street, according to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Hunter Mathews. The cyclist, identified as a Longmont resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the SUV, a 33-year-old woman from Longmont, was not injured. There were no passengers in the vehicle, Mathews confirmed.
All southbound lanes of the Diagonal Highway, also known as Colorado 119, were reopened to traffic by 11:30 a.m., according to the Colorado Department of Transportation's traffic mapping website. The highway was closed to southbound travelers from Fordham Street to the Niwot area during the initial response to the incident.
Details regarding the cyclist's location at the time of the crash have not yet been disclosed, authorities said.
