BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A wrong-way crash on southbound Highway 99 early Sunday resulted in the deaths of a mother and her two daughters.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded at 12:44 a.m. to the collision, which involved a 2022 Honda Accord, a 2019 BMW 530i, and a 2022 Chevrolet Colorado, all near 7th Standard Road.
According to authorities, the Honda was occupied by 41-year-old Vanessa Sue Wetmore, 20-year-old Kylie Wetmore, and 16-year-old Kloie Wetmore, all from Bakersfield. The vehicle was engulfed in flames, resulting in all three occupants being pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the BMW, a 44-year-old man, sustained severe injuries, while the two occupants in the Chevrolet reported minor injuries.
CHP is investigating the circumstances leading to the wrong-way incident but has not confirmed whether alcohol or drugs were involved.
The Kern County Coroner's Office confirmed the identities of those who died. A GoFundMe has been established for the family, highlighting the tragic loss following what was meant to be a celebratory weekend.
