Four people were killed Aug. 15 in a crash into Mill Creek near the Western Hills Viaduct in Cincinnati, police said.

According to the Cincinnati Police Department, the vehicle struck a guardrail before entering the creek. The victims had not been officially identified as of Aug. 17, and the crash remains under investigation.

The Cincinnati Fire Department said deep water prevented firefighters from reaching the vehicle on foot. Crews used an inflatable boat, removed all occupants and provided medical aid; resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful due to the time victims were underwater, CFD said.

A fifth occupant survived and is in serious condition, according to the survivor's mother.

Authorities asked anyone with information to contact the Cincinnati Police Traffic Unit.
