LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A fatal crash on I-64 West near Mellwood Avenue early Sunday morning left one man dead and the interstate closed for several hours.
The incident occurred just before 4 a.m. when a Toyota Sequoia lost control, reportedly flipping several times before landing in the median. Witnesses immediately called 911.
The Louisville Fire Department extricated the driver, who was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Only one vehicle was involved in the crash. The LMPD Traffic Unit is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
I-64 West reopened around 8:30 a.m. following the removal of the vehicle and debris from the roadway.
