TAMPA, FL. (TNND) — A high-speed crash attributed to alleged street racing resulted in four fatalities and 11 injuries in Tampa's Ybor City early Saturday morning.
The incident occurred at 12:45 a.m., as 22-year-old Silas Sampson lost control of his vehicle while speeding and collided with a crowd outside a business. According to the Tampa Police Department, the crash impacted 15 adults.
Three victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while one succumbed to injuries at a nearby hospital. Nine other individuals received treatment at local hospitals, with one reported in critical condition. Two additional victims sustained minor injuries and declined further medical assistance on-site.
Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw addressed the tragedy, stating, “What happened this morning was a senseless tragedy… our hearts are with the loved ones of the victims and all those who were impacted.” Authorities highlighted that reckless driving endangered innocent lives and reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing justice for the victims and families affected.
The investigation is ongoing, with both the Tampa Police Department and Florida Highway Patrol actively involved in assessing the circumstances surrounding the event.
