PAYNE COUNTY, Okla. — An Ingalls Fire Department tanker crashed and caught fire on Highway 51 near North West Point Road on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP), the tanker was traveling westbound on Highway 51 after responding to an incident in Yale when a tire failure led to loss of control, crossing into the eastbound lanes.

Authorities reported the tanker subsequently broke through a guardrail, rolled down an embankment, and ignited.

OHP confirmed that first responders extricated two firefighters from the vehicle, both of whom were transported to hospitals in Tulsa in critical condition.

Lane closures along Highway 51 are in effect as the incident remains under investigation. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
