GERMANTOWN, Md. (WJLA) — A crash early Tuesday morning in Germantown resulted in one fatality and several injuries involving juveniles.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service responded to the two-vehicle collision at Clopper Road and Great Seneca Highway around 5:30 a.m.
Authorities confirmed that a 34-year-old male, the sole occupant of one vehicle, died at the scene. Seven children, ages 12 to 15, were inside the second vehicle, and they were taken to area hospitals for treatment, with some reported in critical condition.
Fire officials stated that both vehicles were overturned, and firefighters extinguished a small fire in one of them. Crews also performed rescues for individuals trapped inside.
Investigators noted that there were no adults present in the vehicle containing the juveniles, and none were old enough to possess a valid driver's license.
Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Shiera Goff confirmed that the incident involved only juvenile occupants in the second vehicle, stating, “No one is of age to be driving a vehicle.”
The intersection of Clopper Road and Great Seneca Highway will remain closed for several hours as authorities reconstruct the crash. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.
