LAKE WORTH BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A 35-year-old man faces multiple charges after allegedly crashing several pickup trucks and assaulting firefighters.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO), deputies responded to a crash involving a black pickup truck at 605 South Dixie Highway on August 1. The driver, identified as Cesar James, was found to be operating the vehicle with a revoked license.
Initially investigated for possible DUI, James reportedly became aggressive towards Palm Beach County Fire Rescue personnel, refusing medical treatment at JFK Medical Center. Witnesses reported he attempted to strike firefighters, with one stating he was punched multiple times.
James's disruptive behavior continued at the hospital, where he allegedly threatened medical staff and police. The affidavit notes he lifted his fist to strike an officer before being subdued and arrested.
The next day, PBSO responded to another crash at the intersection of 6th Avenue South and South Dixie Highway, where they discovered a black pickup truck had collided with a streetlamp. Authorities identified James as the driver and confirmed he had stolen the vehicle from a residence in Boynton Beach.
As a result of these incidents, James has been charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, battery on a firefighter, threats to a public servant, and multiple counts related to driving with a suspended license, among others. Investigations are ongoing, and further details may be released.
