Lede: A driver faces multiple charges, including DUI, after fatally striking a pedestrian on Las Vegas Boulevard early Tuesday morning.
A collision occurred just before 2 a.m. near Las Vegas Boulevard and Owens Avenue, according to North Las Vegas Police Officer Roberto Vaquera. Investigators found that a 2006 Honda Accord was speeding west on Owens when the driver swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid stopped vehicles.
The vehicle then struck a pedestrian on the sidewalk, as well as a power box and light pole. Both the driver and a passenger exited the car and fled the scene but returned shortly thereafter, where they were detained by police. Authorities suspect both individuals were under the influence of alcohol.
Police obtained a warrant for a blood draw from the driver, who has not been identified. The driver was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence and reckless driving.
