MISSOULA, Mont. — The Montana Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a cargo truck that occurred Thursday morning on Jackrabbit Lane near Baxter Lane, just outside Bozeman.
The incident happened at approximately 7:08 a.m. as a Rockport cargo truck traveling southbound made a U-turn. A southbound motorcycle, identified as a Chappy YZFR7, collided with the truck's left side.
The 27-year-old motorcycle rider, a resident of Belgrade, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 60-year-old truck driver from Silver Star was unharmed.
Authorities reported that speed may have contributed to the crash, with witnesses indicating the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed. Conditions on the road were dry at the time, and no alcohol or drugs are suspected to have been involved.
The investigation is ongoing, and no additional details regarding lane closures or emergency response have been confirmed.
