One person is dead following a crash on Interstate 40 in Pender County Thursday afternoon.

According to authorities, the incident occurred around 3 p.m. near mile marker 393 between Wallace and Burgaw.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported a traveling westbound lost control, struck the median cable barrier, crossed into eastbound lanes, and collided head-on with a tanker truck.
