BOSTON, MA— A vigil was held Thursday to remember Louisa Gag, a Boston transportation planner killed in a crash on July 9.
Gag, 35, was struck by a truck while cycling in Mission Hill. According to authorities, the incident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. Emergency responders arrived but were unable to save her. The driver remained at the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
Mayor Michelle Wu spoke at the vigil, expressing her sorrow and emphasizing Gag's commitment to creating safer streets. “A Vision Zero city. A city where everyone could access every opportunity,” Wu said, reflecting on Gag's advocacy.
Gag was a supporter of Vision Zero Boston, an initiative aimed at eliminating fatal and severe traffic crashes by 2030. Wu noted that the city is enhancing enforcement of bike lane violations and developing plans for protected bike lane infrastructure improvements.
Fellow cyclists and residents attended the vigil, sharing their grief and hopes for change. “We owe Louisa more than our grief. We owe her action,” Wu added.
