AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — A 1,600-pound red bull escaped from an overturned cattle trailer, running about 1.3 miles through Amarillo on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. on eastbound I-40 at Washington Street, prompting traffic diversions during peak rush hour, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. Emergency responders from the Potter County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the scene.
Witnesses reported the bull traveled south from the crash site, eventually being corralled by police into a backyard in the 3400 block of South Jackson Street. Authorities noted the animal appeared overheated and had visible injuries upon arrival.
The Lopez family, who found the bull, attempted to cool it with a garden hose and offered apples. The Sheriff's Office later provided a livestock trailer to safely transport the bull.
The extent of the bull's injuries remains under investigation. No other vehicles or individuals were reported injured in the incident.
