Two killed in small plane crash at Erie Municipal Airport
ERIE, CO — Two people died Sunday in a small plane crash at Erie Municipal Airport around 3:45 p.m., authorities said.
“We are heartbroken to share that there were no survivors in the single-engine plane crash that occurred earlier today,” the Erie Police Department stated in a release at 8:55 p.m.
The occupants of the JMB Aircraft VL-3 were not residents of Colorado, and their identities have not been disclosed.
The crash site, located east of the airport runway, remains under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The airport, located at 395 Airport Drive, has been closed as investigators work to determine the cause.
Neither the FAA nor the NTSB provided comments on the situation, but NTSB officials confirmed the aircraft type on social media.
