KEARNEY, Neb. — A crash on Monday claimed the life of a 13-year-old girl in Kearney County.
According to the Kearney County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred at the intersection of Highways 6/34 and 44. A 2013 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by 17-year-old Guadalupe Solorio of Santa Fe, N.M., was struck by a westbound 2019 Peterbilt truck, operated by 60-year-old Daniel Shoemaker of O'Neill.
The young passenger in the Volkswagen was airlifted to CHI-Good Samaritan in Kearney, where she was later pronounced dead. Both drivers were taken by ambulance to Kearney hospitals for treatment of injuries and have since been released. Authorities confirmed that all occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The Kearney County Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with the Nebraska State Patrol and Kearney County Attorney's Office, is investigating the collision. Assistance was provided by the Nebraska Department of Roads, Axtell Fire and Rescue, Good Samaritan Ambulance, and Air Care.
