An 82-year-old man sustained serious injuries in a crash involving a side-by-side on Sunday morning in Chariton County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), the incident occurred at 11:53 a.m. on Highway 24, approximately one mile east of Brunswick.
Troopers reported that a 2021 Honda Pioneer side-by-side, operated by the 82-year-old Buckner resident, was traveling westbound when it collided with a Chariton County Sheriff's Department patrol vehicle multiple times.
After the collisions, the driver overcorrected, causing the side-by-side to veer off the road and overturn, resulting in his ejection.
The 82-year-old was airlifted by MU 3 to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment of serious injuries. He was not wearing a safety device at the time of the crash.
The other vehicle involved, a 2020 Dodge Durango, was driven by a 59-year-old man from Anabel, who reportedly suffered no injuries and drove away from the scene.
The side-by-side was declared totaled and was towed from the site.
The Chariton County Sheriff's Department and local ambulance services assisted MSHP at the scene.
