SMYRNA, DE — An 8-year-old girl riding an electric scooter was fatally struck by a pickup truck on April 27 in a residential neighborhood, according to Smyrna Police.
The identity of the victim has not been released.
Authorities reported the incident contributes to an alarming spike in roadway fatalities this year, with the Delaware Department of Transportation confirming 31 deaths as of April 27.
Emergency responders provided medical aid at the scene, but the girl succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and no charges have been announced at this time.
