PITTSBURG COUNTY, (Okla.) — A 37-year-old woman has died following a two-vehicle collision on Hwy 9 in Pittsburg County.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m. on September 9, emergency crews responded to the scene. According to authorities, a vehicle traveling eastbound on Hwy 9 left the roadway and overcorrected, colliding with a westbound vehicle driven by Whitney Joplin, 37.

A third vehicle, also westbound and positioned behind Joplin, attempted to avoid the crash but struck the rear of the first vehicle. Witnesses reported that Joplin succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while a passenger in her vehicle sustained injuries.

Emergency responders transported the injured passenger for medical care. The roadway was partially closed during the investigation and cleanup. The incident remains under investigation by local law enforcement.
