GREENACRES, Fla. — Emergency response continues as 31 residents remain displaced following a Learjet crash on October 1, which resulted in nine fatalities.
According to authorities, the crash has forced residents from their homes in the Green Acres Mobile Home Community. Many are sheltering at the Greenacres Community Center, facing financial strain and uncertainty regarding their return.
The Emergency Assistance Foundation has initiated a People First Fund, providing $1,000 cash grants to eligible affected residents. “We are ready to start taking in grant applications,” said Josselyn Hodges, the initiative's director. The goal is to assist all 68 identified impacted individuals.
State Rep. Debra Tendrich is coordinating efforts to help replace spoiled food caused by power outages. “We want to ensure families can fill their refrigerators upon returning home,” she stated.
Organizations like the Red Cross are on-site, offering supplies and assistance. Dare to Care is providing mobile showers and laundry services to those at the shelter. “We're here to relieve some of the loss,” said Timothy Murphy of Dare to Care.
As the investigation unfolds, it remains unclear when residents will be allowed to return to their homes. Help continues to be mobilized across the community in response to this tragic event.
