STUART, Fla. — A family is seeking justice after a suspected drunk driver severely injured a registered nurse in a last November.

Rebecca Engle, known for her dedication to pediatric nursing, was returning home from Target when she was struck. One of her sons witnessed the aftermath of the crash.

Engle reported that the driver was traveling in the wrong lane and is believed to have been intoxicated. “He had to know he was too drunk; he was driving on the wrong side of the road,” Engle stated.

The incident has caused significant distress for the Engle family, particularly with no charges filed against the alleged driver. The State's Attorney noted the delay was due to the driver's hospitalization and a paperwork error by the Florida Highway Patrol, which submitted the original affidavit to the incorrect office.

Rebecca's husband, Kevin Engle, has taken time off work to care for her throughout her recovery. “I've been by her side this whole time,” he said.

Despite the challenges ahead, Rebecca remains hopeful for her future, stating her desire to walk her children down the aisle and hold her grandchildren. The family has initiated legal action against the suspected driver and set up a GoFundMe account to support their needs.
